Add popcorn, milk, cream, and butter oil to a pot and slowly bring the mixture up to a simmer.
Meanwhile, whisk together the egg yolks, cornstarch, sugar and salt until well combined.
Once the liquid reaches temperature, strain it through a fine strainer and slowly temper the egg mixture. When the egg mixture is warm enough, whisk it into the pot with the rest of the milk and cream and bring back to a bare simmer until the pudding thickens up.
Remove from heat and serve warm with a few kernels of popcorn on top.
