Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add water, apples, brown sugar, spices, and balsamic. Cook until apples become semi-soft. Remove from heat.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, salt, and baking powder. Whisk in milk until all lumps are gone.
In a 9&rsquo, cast iron skillet, heat olive oil until just warm. Add the batter and smooth out. Top with the apple mixture, including all juices. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Serve warm with a non-dairy ice cream.
